“The Time is Meow”.
Well… the time is April 20, 2018, so you still have a few months to go. For those of us who have been patiently waiting for the sequel to Broken Lizard’s 2001 cult-classic comedy, the announcement of it’s release is enough to get us psyched for some more syrup-chugging, mustache-riding shenanigans.
The much anticipated sequel was originally announced all the way back in the 2006, but a series of script re-writes and changes delayed the project.
In 2015, Broken Lizard received permission from the studio to film the sequel, but were told that they would need to find production financing on their own. The team decided to attempt to raise production expenses via an Indigogo crowd-funding campaign. Proving the public’s love of the original movie and its’ desire to see a sequel the campaign raised over 73% of the required costs in only 14 hours.
This project is also, as of March 2016, #38 on the list of highest funded crowdfunding projects and is the #7 largest successfully-completed Indiegogo project; its campaign was completed on April 24. The campaign raised $4.4 million for the film, and Fox Searchlight Pictures is scheduled to release the film.
And… if you never saw the original, here is a taste of what you missed.
